Finding My Style / Changing Room Tales #1

IMG_0156I've received a few comments recently asking for more of my 'Finding My Style' series that I started on my Diary Of A Spendaholic channel last year. I had intended to film a follow up but haven't really known where I want to take the series so in the interim I thought I might repurpose an old idea here instead, Changing Room Tales. Part of my new ethos is to not over-buy and to ALWAYS try on and so I thought this kind of post might fit nicely with the Finding My Style series. I never used to try anything on and ended up with half a wardrobe of things that either didn't fit or I just didn't like once I got them home. Online shopping aside I buy very little these days without trying it on and because it's so rare that I can be bothered to queue for a changing room or dress and undress multiple times it's definitely saved me some cash.. as well as space in my closet. IMG_0172IMG_0167IMG_0181IMG_0187When I do, however I am far more critical than I once was. I don't NEED anything new so if I don't absolutely love it I don't buy it. Once upon a time I'd find something I liked and buy it in 5 colours.. I still have to fight that urge but this striped shirt, for example.. I bought a very similar once last year and LOVED it.. but it's still in my wardrobe and it's still VERY similar, I don't need another. I'm actually really in to shirts/blouses at the moment, the top two here are from Topshop and the bottom two are Primark. I bought the top one because I liked the fit and it was on mega sale, I've since been told it looks like a bank uniform (which I can't unsee now) but I like the style. On the hangers I may have chosen the very blousey pink leopard number which I think we can all agree would have been a mistake..

I did get the pleated mini skirt though and have LOVED it with tights layered with a jumper!IMG_0189IMG_0191IMG_0164Then there were the things I may never have tried on.. I am a huge fan of bardot tops and lived in my H&M ones last summer so I may have just picked this one up from Primark without a second thought but the fit is not at all the same. The cardigan I'm still in two minds about, it combines my love of all things cosy with some actual colour but I just didn't love it. Lastly, velvet Joni Jeans from Topshop.. I'd seen these online full price and was VERY interested but worried about 1) Dog hair and 2) skin tight velvet being less than flattering but I have worn these so often (even to work) they are so comfy, very flattering, not too dog-hair-attractive and they were something like a tenner.. bargain of the day, for sure!

IMG_0174IMG_0175Lastly there's the dress that Milo (5) chose. He is the worlds greatest shopping companion, he just loves to shop. He picks things out, loves trying things on (even if it's not for him), has far more patience than my daughter or my husband and is very enthusiastic in his critique. On this trip he was picking out the craziest stuff and becoming a little disheartened when I didn't chose any of it so I took this in with me for him and thought 'why not? maybe I'll like it' ..I did not. I'd like to see who makes this fabric look good, I really would but the most bizarre feature was the arm restriction. It was 'not the one'

This was a few weeks ago but with our holiday coming up in Easter I'm planning a high street attack once the summer stuff comes in so if you're in to it I'll post again then. Where are your favourite places to shop? I LIVE in H&M usually and am trying to break out and try something new
