MAC Waterweight v Waterproof

I haven't tried a MAC foundation is years (4 to be precise, I was pregnant with Milo at the time) and I've never found one I loved but having heard very good things about their two new launches I thought I'd give them another chance to wow me. Initially I went in for the Waterproof as I'm more of a long wear base girl but the waterweight sounded perfect for my 'off days' so I decided they might make for a good comparison post.. and here we are.

First point of difference is the packaging which is led by the very different formulas. The Waterproof is thicker and the Waterweight is (as the name suggests) like water.. very very thin and so the pipet applicator is almost necessary to contain it. Having had these for more than a month now I have found that the best way to apply the heavier foundation is with a beauty blender, you CAN use brushes as it's not cakey or heavy at all but I prefer the finish with the sponge. The waterweight however is a finger tips job, anything else just soaks up the product whereas using my hands it just feels like an extra skincare product. Very, very light weight and comfortable but there's a good amount of coverage.. not at all what I was expecting actually. In the picture above I've applied a light layer of each and I don't think there's much in it, but you tell me..

Although each of these foundations is aimed more at normal/oily skin than dry I didn't find that they were all that good at oil control. I'm finally learning that very few products really are though so I wont demerit them for that. They were however a little tough on dry patches, the waterweight was considerably better in this area so if you skin is on the drier side that's the one I'd suggest you try. They're really so, so similar though and I had expected them to be polar opposites, they are each a little better than the other in their own way but I think I'm leaning towards the Waterweight because the differences when worn are so minor but that one feels the most comfortable and wears better on me. Neither are super heavy but the waterproof settles in to those drier areas over time (although the oil control is marginally better) but both offer good, buildable, long lasting coverage, it really will depend n your skin and the finish you prefer. I find them both to be semi-matte/satin.. if you're looking for something similar for very dry skin I'd suggest Face & Body which will be a little more forgiving.
