My First Curling Wand..

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI don't curl my hair often but when I do I use a narrow barreled tong. It's relatively quick, lasts all day and most importantly.. I know what I'm doing. When I first saw a curling wand I felt like my parents when they try and use some fancy technology.. we already had curling tool, why were they messing with what worked? I wasn't interested. About a year ago I was sent a conical wand to review.. long story short it didn't go well. I couldn't understand how to use it and (obviously) refused to wear the gloves because I thought I knew best.. I didn't. ALWAYS USE THE GLOVES!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAFast forward to about a week ago and this is me considering giving it another shot with a newer, fancier wand.. that lets face it looks like something else entirely. I've seen these bobbly, wiggly ones before and always assumed the shape was a gimmick but in actual fact it makes curling SO much easier. Your hair doesn't slip up and down, it sits in the grooves and I'd imagine that's massively helpful for someone with more of it than me. The MAIN thing I discovered this time around is that you use the wand UPSIDE DOWN! Mind. Blown. Obviously with a traditional tool you would hold it the way I am in the above picture but having tried (and failed) to use this that way I decided it couldn't be right.. there's no way I could make it work on my short hair. Unfortunately I didn't have anyone available to take action shots at the time but I promise I'll film a styling video with this once I've perfected the process as it's near impossible to explain how you use a wand without showing you.. for those who can't wait you can watch THIS video from Really Ree

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA It was much easier that I'd anticipated.. even on my freshly washed, fluffy hair I managed to get a relatively frizz free (what? I said RELATIVELY!!) finish.. would you believe there are real diamonds in each of the 'diamond range' heat tools which claim to conduct heat more effectively and promote shine? I know! Madness! but hey, if they can put them in face cream I guess they can put them wherever they like. Another benefit of that is the low heat you can style your hair at.. I generally don't heat style my hair because I'm so blonde, I think you can be blonde or you can heat style.. My hair is still pretty strong for the bleaching it's been through and I attribute that to the avoidance of styling BUT there are times I want to look a little more polished and anything that can help reduce damage is a winner!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERANext time I use it I will probably wait a few days after a washing for a less fluffy result and run some oil or serum through the ends to separate and get some definition but I wanted to share a true first impression. I have never correctly used a wand before and when I first started curling with this I held up zero hope for any success whatsoever but I think it turned out really well. At £25 it's the cheapest of the range and something I'd highly recommend if you're a total styling novice like me!
